The Transition Spur is a 120mm-travel 29er that helped define the modern short-travel trail category. Built around a lightweight carbon chassis and a pivotless flex-stay rear triangle, it is designed for riders who want the climbing efficiency of a cross-country race bike without sacrificing downhill stability. Transition positions the Spur as an all-country machine, blending low weight with aggressive angles typically reserved for longer-travel platforms.

The current generation debuted in 2021 and received a mid-cycle update in 2024 to add Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) compatibility, enabling the use of SRAM Transmission drivetrains. The Spur utilizes Transition’s Speed Balanced Geometry, pairing a slack 66-degree head tube angle with a long reach to create a highly stable footprint. This length gives the bike a distinctly centered, in-the-bike feel that favors leaning into sweeping arcs rather than making quick steering inputs from the bars. While this stability is a major asset on fast descents, the resulting long wheelbase can require extra effort to maneuver through tight, low-speed switchbacks.

For climbing and flat terrain, the steep seat tube angle places the rider in an upright, efficient pedaling posture. This forward-biased seated position helps keep the front wheel tracking straight on steep pitches, preventing the wandering steering often associated with slack head angles.

The Spur lineup consists of three carbon-framed builds, all featuring the updated UDH-compatible rear triangle. The range starts with the Carbon Deore, which offers a reliable entry point using a Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain, four-piston Deore brakes, and Fox Rhythm and Performance suspension. It rolls on aluminum WTB rims laced to Novatec hubs.

Stepping up to the mid-tier Carbon Eagle 90 introduces SRAM's GX Eagle Transmission for wireless shifting. This build upgrades the suspension to Fox Performance Elite components, featuring the highly adjustable GRIP X damper in the fork. It also moves to a DT Swiss M 1900 aluminum wheelset and SRAM Motive Bronze brakes.

The flagship Carbon XO AXS build maximizes weight savings and performance. It features top-tier Fox Factory suspension with Kashima coating, a SRAM XO Eagle Transmission, and SRAM G2 RSC brakes.
