The eighth generation of the Santa Cruz V10 remains a dedicated downhill race platform, built around 208mm of VPP rear travel and a top-tier CC carbon frame. While it retains the unmistakable silhouette of its predecessors, the V10.8 introduces a highly tunable chassis and a size-specific wheel approach. Sizes small through large are strictly mixed-wheel (MX), while the extra-large frame is a dedicated dual-29er. Positioned at the premium end of the downhill market, it is engineered for privateer racers and dedicated bike park riders who want World Cup-level kinematics. Santa Cruz focused heavily on mid-stroke support and chassis refinement, resulting in a bike that balances high-speed composure with surprising agility. It is a specialized tool designed to mute the roughest tracks while maintaining the snap required to generate speed out of corners.

| Stack | 633mm |
| Reach | 447mm |
| Headtube length | 110mm |
| Standover height | 730mm |
| Seat tube length | 445mm |
The V10.8 is defined by its extensive, independent geometry adjustments, allowing riders to heavily manipulate the fit and handling. Reach can be altered by plus or minus 8mm using drop-in IS41 headset cups, providing a massive tuning window to suit riders caught between sizes. The chainstay length is also adjustable by 5mm in either direction via dropout chips, requiring specific derailleur hangers for each position. Finally, a three-position flip chip at the lower shock mount fine-tunes the bottom bracket height and head tube angle.
On the trail, these adjustments allow the bike to shift from a stable, planted race posture to a slightly more agile park setup. The baseline geometry places the rider deep inside the bike, aided by a relatively high stack that keeps weight centered on steep descents. Because the wheel sizes are locked to the frame size—MX for small through large, and dual-29 for the XL—taller riders looking for the rear-end clearance of a smaller back wheel will need to weigh that preference against the XL's longer reach.

Santa Cruz offers the V10.8 in two complete builds, both utilizing the exact same CC carbon frame. The lineup starts with the DH S build, which pairs a RockShox BoXXer Base fork and Vivid Select+ coil shock with a SRAM GX DH 7-speed drivetrain. Stepping up to the DH X01 build upgrades the suspension to a Fox 40 Float Factory fork and DHX2 Factory coil shock, alongside a SRAM X01 DH drivetrain.
Both models are equipped with SRAM's heavy-duty Maven brakes—Bronze on the S build and Silver on the X01—paired with massive 220mm front and 200mm rear rotors to handle downhill speeds. The wheelsets are identical across the board, featuring Reserve 30|HD AL 6069 or RaceFace ARC 30 HD aluminum rims laced to Industry Nine 1/1 hubs, wrapped in Maxxis Assegai or Minion DHR II tires with DH casings and MaxxGrip compounds. While the entry price is undeniably high, the value is anchored in the frame quality, the inclusion of all geometry adjustment hardware in the box, and Santa Cruz’s lifetime warranty on the frame and pivot bearings.

Reviewers consistently praise the V10.8 for its ability to mute severe terrain without feeling sluggish. The revised VPP kinematics provide a distinct increase in mid-stroke support, which keeps the bike from "mushing into the travel" (PinkBike) when riders pump through rollers or push into berms. This supportive platform, combined with excellent small-bump sensitivity, creates a sensation of being "glued to the ground" (Revolutionmtb) across off-camber roots and flat corners. Testers note that the chassis effectively "dumbs down the trail" (YouTube), absorbing so much feedback that riders often find themselves traveling much faster than they realize.
Despite its stability at race speeds, the bike remains remarkably intuitive at lower speeds. One tester noted that it "carves around corners as if it could read your mind" (Enduro MTB), highlighting a neutral balance that does not demand an overly aggressive, forward-leaning riding style.
However, reviewers did identify a few practical tradeoffs. The drop-in headset cups, while convenient for reach adjustments, are prone to creaking in dusty conditions and require frequent cleaning. Additionally, while the frame is exceptionally quiet thanks to generous rubberized protection, aggressive riders noted that the Fox DHX2 coil shock on some test bikes began to top out under faster rebound settings.
