The 2024-on Canyon Spectral marks a deliberate repositioning of the model back into the heart of the modern trail category. Canyon trimmed travel to 150mm front and 140mm rear, kept the head angle at 64 degrees, and steepened the seat angle to 76.5 degrees, creating a bike that is meant to cover a wide range of riding rather than overlap too heavily with the brand’s enduro-focused Strive. The redesign is centered on a new carbon frame with updated suspension kinematics, a one-piece rocker link, and a more compliant rear end, while still allowing a 160mm fork for riders who want to push it slightly harder. In 2025, Canyon extended the same platform into the Spectral AL, carrying over the same core geometry and travel concept in aluminum.

| Stack | 621mm |
| Reach | 450mm |
| Top tube | 599mm |
| Headtube length | 110mm |
| Standover height | 749mm |
| Seat tube length | 400mm |
The geometry is modern without being extreme, and the numbers point clearly to a stable, aggressive trail-bike fit. A 64-degree head angle is slack enough to give the Spectral strong front-end confidence on steep descents, while the 76.5-degree seat angle keeps the rider centered for seated climbing. Reach numbers are long by trail-bike standards—475mm in Medium and 500mm in Large—paired with a 630mm stack in Medium and 639mm in Large, which creates a roomy cockpit and a relatively tall front end. That combination tends to suit riders who want descending confidence and a centered standing position more than a compact, ultra-quick feel.

The available range spans from the alloy Spectral 6 at $3,099 to the carbon CF 9 SRAM X0 Eagle AXS Transmission at $5,799, with the CF 7 at $3,199 and CF 8 SRAM GX Eagle AXS Transmission at $5,099 in between. That pricing structure gives buyers a clear choice between low-cost entry, affordable carbon, and two wireless Transmission-equipped carbon builds. The CF 7 stands out as the obvious value carbon option, only $100 above the alloy 6, while the jump to the CF 8 and CF 9 is primarily about drivetrain tier and overall spec level rather than a change in frame concept.
At the top end, the difference between the $5,099 CF 8 GX AXS and the $5,799 CF 9 X0 AXS is relatively modest in price, so riders already shopping in that bracket may see the CF 9 as the stronger premium buy. More broadly, Canyon’s usual value proposition is intact here: even before getting into individual components, the range offers a modern frame platform with storage, mixed-wheel compatibility on the carbon chassis, and the same core geometry across the line rather than reserving the key ride character for only the most expensive model.

Reviewers broadly agree that this generation Spectral succeeds at being a genuinely versatile trail bike with a notably lively character. Across outlets including Flow Mountain Bike, Pinkbike, The Loam Wolf, Off.road.cc, and BikeRadar, the recurring theme is that the new bike feels more playful and engaging than the previous Spectral, with a calmer and more compliant rear end that improves traction and reduces the harsh, pingy feel some testers associated with the older carbon frame. The revised suspension layout is widely praised for combining small-bump sensitivity with useful mid-stroke support, giving the bike strong grip on technical climbs and enough pop to reward pumping, jumping, and active riding. Several reviewers also noted that despite the reduced 140mm rear travel, it remains more capable than the numbers suggest on rough descents.
The main caveat is Canyon’s K.I.S. steering stabilizer, which is easily the most divisive part of the package. Some testers found it genuinely helpful in rough, steep, or loose terrain, saying it calmed the front end and even helped recover from deflections. Others, including reviewers at Pinkbike, Singletrackworld, BikeRadar, and Jeff Kendall-Weed, felt it dulled steering response, hindered turn initiation, or rattled enough that they removed it entirely. There were also a few setup-related criticisms: some riders found the rear shock a little too linear or easy to bottom out without extra volume spacers, the low bottom bracket could lead to pedal strikes in the low setting, and Canyon’s stock G5 grips were almost universally disliked for their harsh feel. Even so, the overall verdict is strongly positive: the Spectral is seen as a highly capable, unusually fun trail bike with excellent value and a broad performance envelope.
