The Norco Fluid FS is a 29-inch trail bike built around 130mm of rear suspension and a 140mm fork. Redesigned for the 2023 model year, the current generation shifts the platform into a more aggressive posture while maintaining Norco’s historical focus on accessible pricing. The frame utilizes a classic four-bar Horst-link suspension layout, updated with refined kinematics to offer a supportive, progressive leverage rate.
While the Fluid FS is fundamentally an aluminum platform known for its smooth welds and robust construction, Norco also offers a variant featuring a carbon front triangle paired with the alloy rear end. Both materials share the exact same geometry and suspension kinematics. The bike is aimed squarely at everyday trail riders who want a versatile, durable machine capable of handling steep descents and technical climbs without requiring a premium budget.

The Fluid FS is built around Norco’s Ride Aligned design philosophy, which scales key geometry measurements across the size range to keep rider weight distribution consistent. Rather than using a single rear-center measurement, the chainstays grow from 425mm on the size Small up to 445mm on the XXL. Effective seat tube angles also steepen on larger frames, hovering around 76 to 77.3 degrees, which places the rider in a comfortable, upright posture that helps keep the front wheel weighted on steep climbs.
Handling is dictated by a slack 65-degree head tube angle and a generous reach, giving the bike a long wheelbase that prioritizes high-speed stability over low-speed agility. This creates a centered, in-the-bike feel that encourages riders to push hard on descents. Additionally, the frame features a low standover height and a short, straight 34.9mm seat tube. This design choice maximizes clearance and allows Norco to spec exceptionally long-travel dropper posts, with larger sizes accommodating up to 200mm of drop to get the saddle completely out of the way on technical terrain.

The lineup.
6 builds, ranging $1,799 – $3,899.
The aluminum Fluid FS lineup spans from the entry-level A4 to the premium A1, with each tier prioritizing functional performance over flashy upgrades. The A1 models represent the top of the alloy range, offering high-end suspension like the Fox 34 Factory or RockShox Pike Select+ forks, paired with custom-tuned piggyback shocks. These top builds also feature complete 12-speed drivetrains from Shimano or SRAM and powerful TRP Trail EVO four-piston brakes.
Moving down the ladder, the mid-tier A2 and A3 builds swap in more economical suspension, such as the Marzocchi Bomber Z2 or RockShox 35 Silver forks, alongside Shimano SLX or SRAM SX drivetrains. The entry-level A4 utilizes a RockShox Recon fork and a Shimano Deore 11-speed drivetrain, which still provides a wide gear range for steep climbs.
Across all builds, Norco maintains a commitment to four-piston hydraulic disc brakes and size-specific dropper posts. While the higher-end models offer exceptional value with their sophisticated dampers, reviewers note that the heavier, less supportive forks on the A3 and A4 builds can be a limiting factor for aggressive riders pushing the bike hard on rough descents.

From the press.
17 reviews from the cycling press.
Reviewers consistently praise the Fluid FS for delivering a ride quality that feels distinctly refined for its price bracket. On descents, the bike is stable and composed at speed, utilizing its active suspension to absorb trail chatter. The rear end is frequently highlighted for its grip, with testers noting it "finds traction where other mountain bikes struggle" (BikeRadar) on loose or technical climbs.
While the active suspension design generates massive grip, it does result in noticeable pedal bob on smooth fire roads, prompting many riders to utilize the shock's climb switch during sustained ascents. The bike is also undeniably heavy for a short-travel machine, though reviewers widely agree that it "climbed lighter than its 32-pound weight would suggest" (Vital MTB) thanks to an efficient seated pedaling position.
The most common critique across the board relates to the stock Vittoria tires. Multiple testers found the casing too thin for aggressive riding, noting that the rear tire in particular is "quickly showing signs of wear" (Flow Mountain Bike) and prone to flats. Despite this, the overarching consensus is that the frame and suspension provide a "beautifully hovercrafty" (Singletrackworld) feel that excels across a massive variety of trail conditions.
